This is the Season 1 opening title sequence from “Miss Scarlet and the Duke,” a British-Irish historical mystery that debuted in the spring of 2020.
Shown worldwide on the pay-TV channel Alibi, it stars Kate Phillips as Eliza Scarlet, a headstrong young woman who, following the sudden demise in 1882 of her cop-turned-private detective father, Henry Scarlet, determines to take over his London investigatory agency and thereby secure the money she needs to ensure financial security for herself and her household. She is alternately opposed and assisted by William “The Duke” Wellington (Stuart Martin), a childhood friend who was once Henry Scarlet’s mentee and is now a womanizing and rather ill-tempered detective inspector with Scotland Yard.
As London’s first female private inquiry agent, Eliza finds it difficult to win respect and regular employment. Yet she proves herself, over and over again, to be fully capable of bringing malefactors to justice--and maintaining a mostly business relationship with The Duke.
