Although it went off the rails in later seasons, Thrones was amazing at the start, thanks to incredible characters like Varys the Spider. He is among the show's most complex and mysterious figures, brilliantly played by Irish actor Conleth Hill. And while the show stayed mostly true to the source material, it did change several key details about Varys' characterization compared to the novels. Game of Thrones proved that Varys' allegiances are with the commonfolk, the realm and its people. However, the books portray him as a Targaryen loyalist, at least on the surface. The show did considerable work to soften Varys' edges. Hey guys, welcome to my channel, please don't forget to like and subscribe and also click on the notification bell to remain updated. Indeed, Game of Thrones's version of Varys was shady and manipulative but possessed a firm sense of right and wrong. He didn't enjoy cruelty and didn't kill for pleasure. Indeed, he didn't seem to kill at all. However, his counterpart in the books is ruthless. Varys is pragmatic and kills when necessary without feeling any guilt. He kills Pycelle and Kevan Lannister because they stand in the way of his plans, and while he expresses regret, he probably doesn't lose any sleep because of it. In the books, Varys is a master of disguise. He wears makeup and wigs to assume different identities, including a begging brother and a matronly woman who Tyrion compares to Lollys Stokeworth. Varys uses these disguises to go unnoticed while working toward his secret goals, and he often interacts with characters that know him and successfully fools them. The show does not mention Varys' disguises, perhaps to avoid overcomplicating things. Varys' costumes play a prominent role in the plot, but they grant him a more surreal quality that might've not translated well into live-action. Robert's Rebellion is one of the most important Targaryen stories and a major episode in Westerosi history, ending 300 years of Targaryen rule and ushering in the events of A Song of Ice and Fire. Varys played a prominent role in the Rebellion, advising the Mad King Aerys the second. #gameofthrones #houseofthedragon #varys
