Welcome to Tutorial007 and in this video, we will learn about how to insert symbols or special character in Microsoft excel with live example and great explanation.

You can insert symbols and special characters in Microsoft Excel using various methods. Here are some common ways to do it:

Method 1: Insert Symbol from the Ribbon:

Open your Excel spreadsheet.

Click on the cell where you want to insert the symbol.

Go to the "Insert" tab in the Excel ribbon.

In the "Symbols" group, click on the "Symbol" button. A drop-down menu will appear.

From the drop-down menu, select "Symbol..." This will open the Symbol dialog box.

In the Symbol dialog box, you can select a font from the "Font" drop-down menu. Different fonts may have different sets of symbols and characters.

Scroll through the list of symbols to find the one you want to insert. Click on the symbol to select it.

Click the "Insert" button to insert the selected symbol into the cell.

Click "Close" to close the Symbol dialog box.

Method 2: Using the Keyboard Shortcut:

You can use keyboard shortcuts to insert specific symbols and characters in Excel:

Place your cursor in the cell where you want to insert the symbol.

Press and hold the Alt key on your keyboard.

While holding the Alt key, type a four-digit code on the numeric keypad (not the numbers at the top of the keyboard) for the symbol you want to insert. For example, to insert the degree symbol (°), you can type 0176.

Release the Alt key, and the symbol will appear in the cell.

Method 3: Using the Windows Character Map:

You can also use the Windows Character Map utility to find and insert symbols in Excel:

Open the Windows Character Map:

In Windows 10/11, you can search for "Character Map" in the Start menu.
In older versions of Windows, you can find it in the Accessories or System Tools folder.
In the Character Map utility, select the font that contains the symbol you want to insert.

Scroll through the list of characters to find the symbol you want to use. Click on the symbol to select it.

Click the "Copy" button to copy the selected symbol to your clipboard.

Go back to your Excel spreadsheet and paste the symbol into the desired cell using Ctrl + V or right-clicking and selecting "Paste."

These methods allow you to insert a wide range of symbols and special characters into Excel, including mathematical symbols, currency symbols, arrows, and more, to enhance your spreadsheet's content and formatting.
