The 2018 midterm elections have brought a treasure trove of campaign ads. Candidates have never been more creative — or idiotic.

Ron DeSantis, Republican candidate for governor, read one of President Trump’s books to an infant, stating his favorite part was when Trump said, “You’re fired.”

A democratic candidate for the House, Dan Helmer, brought us to the “Helmer Zone.” A Top Gun remake complete with overly dramatic motorcycle scenes and a very poorly sung rendition of You’ve Got That Lovin’ Feeling.

Of course, campaign ads would be nothing without their swipes at opponents and government leadership. Taking the biggest hit this year? Mitch McConnell.

Don Blankenship, Republican candidate for Senate, gave the Majority Leader a couple of pet names: Swamp Captain Mitch and Cocaine Mitch.

Then there was the “deportation bus” suggested by Republican candidate for governor Michael Williams. Williams said he was “gonna fill this bus with illegals to send them back to where they came from.”

And lastly, Levi Tillemann, Democratic candidate for the House, who had something that looked like mace sprayed into his eyes and dunked his head into a bucket of some blue foaming chemical that was “incredible painful.”

These ads are truly diamonds in the rough.
