recording meetups like it's a 4,000 person conference: how and why

Recently we've gotten a lot of questions from other meetup organizers (not just TypeScript people) about how we produce recordings and run our meetups. So... here's how we do it!

After all, if our whole goal at MiTS is to provide resources for passionate TypeScript engineers.. running a meetup is a pretty common thing for such people to do, so it makes sense to talk about the technical side of these things.

It's mentioned in the video, but just to say it here again: yes, we understand that this is significantly more equipment than technical conferences with thousands of attendees (not exaggerating). It's a whole other story on how this equipment came to be in our hands (and other non MiTS stuff it's used for), but we'll save that for another day.

We made this video in the hope that you'll find something useful if you're running a meetup (or aspiring to). There are plenty of things mentioned in the video that don't cost any extra money to do (e.g. printing out the WiFi information with a big QR code, remembering to get a regional favorite drink, playing a board game with everyone afterwards, finding a cozy and calm place for people to go afterwards to hang out more if they want, inviting local companies to leave a small supply of stickers, etc.). And, on that note: if there are ideas you have for us then we'd love to hear them!

If you're curious, you can check out recordings of live (meetup) talks here:    • Live Talks
