Having only been diagnosed at 19 after many signs growing up and meeting people of all races in and out mental health clinics, Shanice thinks that awareness is very important especially of what to look out for abd how to react and respond. As a person of colour, many family members are unaware of her diagnosis because the only mental they know includes extreme psychosis and schizophrenia. Shanice believes her idea is worth spreading as it includes discussing mental illness has existed for centuries due to suicide and its attempts being committed over the years. Shanice is a final year Bachelor of Social Sciences at the University of Cape Town majoring in Politics and History This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
