32.768kHz is used widely for many watch/RTC/Timer peripheral.
Have you ever wonder why that magic number 32768?
The reason is using 32768Hz aka 32.768kHz frequency for RTC/Timer will give exact 1 Sec delay.
32768 is a 2 power value. Yes, 2 power 15 is 32768. So with 15 stage divider 32.768kHz can be divided to 1Hz.
From that one Hz it is easy to achieve 1 second period.
Why should i use 32.768kHz instead of 1Hz ? 1Hz crystal will give 1 second period withot even dividing then why should i use 32.768kHz?
Size of the crystal and it's frequency is inversely proportional to each other.
So 1Hz crystal will be too big to use in the normal Hardware.
Also 32.768kHz crystal is good in less power consumption.
Frequency suitable for a period of 1 second and Better trade-off between size, frequency and power consumption.
