This is a Czarist Russia tune known simply as the Patriotic Song - Patrioticheskaya pesnya" by Mikhail Glinka composed in 1833 and originally having no lyrics. In 1990, the Patriotic Song was approved as the anthem of the Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic (R.S.F.S.R.: the Российская Социалистическая Федеративная Советская Республика) and served as the national anthem for Russia for approximately 10 years - 1990 - 2000, until Vladimir Putin reinstated the song that had previously served as the national anthem for the U.S.S.R. - though with updated lyrics and now known as: Государственный гимн Российской Федерации, "Gosudarstvenny Gimn Rossiyskoy Federatsii," National Anthem of the Russian Federation.
A national contest was held in Russia to compose lyrics for the Patriotic Song as befitting a newly revived nation and this was one of the results - though the lyrics of none of the entries were ever officially adopted. Other versions of the Patriotic Song exist with different words. This audio recording of «Slavsya, Rossiya!» was made in November 1997. The singer was Leonid Pshenichny (soloist of the Alexandrov Soviet Army Ensemble); the symphony orchestra was conducted by Eugene Svetlanov.
