`kernel-source.git` is the repository hosting the Linux kernel sources used in
SUSE distributions. This repository typically contains many thousands of
patches for each product branch. Most of those patches are backports from the
mainline Linux kernel. Since 2017, those patches are applied in the same order
as the upstream commit that they backport. This order is generated by a set of
scripts collectively referred to as *git-sort*. These scripts are now used by
all contributors to the kernel-source.git repository.

This talk will pick up where the [similar talk from LabsConf
2018](https://events.suse.cz/labs2018/progr...) left off. We
will review the changes to the scripts that took place during the year,
ongoing developments and future plans. This presentation will also be an
opportunity for attendees to ask questions and provide feedback as well as a
forum to discuss future directions.

Some of the topics that will be covered are:
coverage measurement of the automated tests
segregated subsection mode
merge tool and driver issues
confusing error messages
growing importance of supporting merges between branches
getting rid of the remotes list
moving the scripts out of `kernel-source.git` to their own repository
