How to play Sultans Of Swing on guitar is quite a challenge. Possibly Mark Knopfler at his finest. He’s plays over a rhythm guitar and ends each verse with a different guitar lick. The secret is to be able to follow the repeated chord progression for the six verses of the song.
The song is in D minor with the A chord borrowed from D Dorian as the song has a slight eastern flavour which fits with the term Sultan.
The guitar solo is strait forward and the guitar Outro which has some fast picking which I’ve hopefully broken down and made slightly more simple to do.
Definitely a challenge but well worth the effort. The official guitar tab book gives you 20 pages. I’ve made 2 pages print off (above link) which should give you a more easy to follow way of learning this guitar classic
