There were two primary issues at Twin Falls Dam: inadequate spillway capacity and an aging powerhouse. Both created safety issues. Black & Veatch solved both challenges by providing design and project management for the new powerhouse and spillways.

In Iron Mountain, Michigan, the Menominee River has been a source of hydroelectric power and place of recreation for over a century.
This was an opportunity for real progress for the Twin Falls Dam that would benefit people and businesses for decades to come.
Our challenge wasn’t to make a new Twin Falls powerhouse, but to make it better than new.
So we built a new, modern powerhouse with increased capacity and efficiency. Bigger spillways. Two new turbines that do more work than five of the old ones.
All the while, operations remained running during construction. So you see the same river, with the same flow and you get more hydropower, more reliability and more renewable energy. More protection for all the wildlife, from the fish, to the birds, to the wood turtles… and of course, the people.
People building their way of life. Day by day and night by night.
At Black & Veatch, as always, we are committed to building a world of difference.
