This is my mother's recipe that my family has used for many years.
Southern Cornbread Dressing Recipe
Ingredients:
1 Large Pone Cornbread, Crumbled
3 Pints Chicken/Turkey Broth
Vegetables, Chopped: 3 Stalks Celery, 1 Bell Pepper, 1 Large Onion, 1 Bunch Green Onions
6 Eggs: 3 Boiled & Chopped; 3 Raw and Lightly Beaten
Salt and Pepper to taste
Optional: 1-2 Teaspoons Bells Seasoning
Optional: 1 Teaspoon Poultry Seasoning
Optional: 1 Cup Cooked Rice and/or ½ Sleeve Saltine Crackers, Crumbled
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large pot or Dutch Oven, cook vegetables over very low heat just until tender.
Add crumbled cornbread and eggs, boiled and raw, while stirring to combine all ingredients.
Continue cooking over low heat while adding broth in small amounts until the mixture is very loose.
Add seasonings to taste.
Pour dressing into a greased baking pan or dish, and bake for 45 minutes to one hour, until golden brown and firm.
