I'll be telling you the history of the UK flag today!
Three flags—one each for England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland—represent the three nations that make up the United Kingdom.
The cross of St. George found on England's flag is represented by the red right cross.
The cross of Saint Andrew is a symbol of Scotland.
These two flags were combined to form the Great Britain flag in 1606. Since 1801, when Great Britain and Northern Ireland were united to form the United Kingdom, the Great Britain flag was once more altered by the addition of the St. Patrick's cross.
This flag is also known as the Union Jack, which is a reference to the English Navy's "Jack" flag.
