Our economy requires our streets to support the movement of people, goods and services. Suzanna Massingue looks at targeted interventions to ensure this is seamless.
About the series:
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated new behaviours and triggered fundamental changes in attitude, policy and practice around transport and mobility in our towns and cities. This has coincided with a renewed focus on active travel, ongoing reforms to the planning system, declarations of climate emergencies and new modes of mobility like e-scooters.
The combination of the pandemic and these themes has made us look at things in different ways and has accelerated the need to address certain challenges. In particular, it has changed what people value and in turn how they are using streets and the public realm.
This is changing how as professionals we design our streets. We now need to better understand and define what kind of places we want to create, for whom and why. This series explores our five-point plan for creating thriving and liveable streets.
