New video-based teacher training program from Educational Impact - Social Emotional Learning: Looking at Real Classrooms.

You’ve probably heard the terms social emotional learning or SEL a lot in the past few years. But what exactly is all the buzz about? What does teaching social emotional skills look like in the classroom? Every teacher hopes their students are able to demonstrate pro-social behaviors like kindness, empathy, and cooperation. Ideally all of our students would come to school showing self-awareness, self-management and responsible decision-making skills. The reality is, these skills aren’t inherent in many students. As a result, teaching Social Emotional Skills has become just as vital as teaching math, language arts, or science.

Social and emotional learning (SEL) provides a foundation for safe and positive learning, and enhances students' ability to succeed in school, careers, and life. SEL skills instruction can be taught as a separate subject or embedded seamlessly into content area instruction. There are many ways to incorporate SEL skills into your daily routine without it feeling like you’re cramming in “one more thing”. In this program, you will look inside real classrooms as teachers integrate instruction of SEL skills. Through these lessons, you will learn how to promote social and emotional development for all students through teaching and modeling social and emotional skills, providing opportunities for students to practice and hone those skills, and giving students an opportunity to apply these skills in various situations.
