Hello everyone today we are going to take a look at an encryption tool callev veracrypt. All Links mentioned in this video and also available in the description Veracrypt is an open source disk encryption software for Windows Mac Source disk encryption software for Windows Mac OS X and Linux can be used to encrypt your entire hard drive or just create a secure vault store and share sensitive files, the codes fully open source and it has been audited it is available for free download at www.veracrypt.fr. so if you select your download for whatever version of Windows you're running, currently running this on a Windows 10 64-bit desktop so we're just going to take the default Windows installer to let It download and then we just gonna run through the default install Default install, ok,we are just going click ok and select I accept the licence click on next, select install, take the default location, let it run to the end and its installed and hit finish.
At this point can also be prompted to run through a wizard,we are going to select no to this for now as I'm going to go through this manually anyway. so just select the veracrypt icon on your desktop, ok so this is the welcome screen that you going to be presented with from here you the option to create a couple of different types of volumes you can create an encrypted file container you can encrypt the actual operating system partition or you can encrypt the secondary drive or additional partition in the machine, were just going to create a file container first,so its a veracrypt file volume. This is usually used just to store encrypted files,in a secure vault inside an encrypted file for all intensive purposes.so if we go ahead and click on next. You can see we are prompted to create a standard veracrypt volume,we are not going to look at hidden volumes at this stage,we might look at that later on,so click on next.So now we need to give a location for our volume to be stored,so click on next
So now we need to give a location for our volume to be stored so as discussed it is created inside a file,so as discussed we are going to pick a test file here to act as our vault. we are just going to save it inside my documents for test purposes.Going to go ahead and click on next,we will be prompted now to pick the size of our vault,we have only a small amount of documents to go into our vault so we are going to pick 100 Megabytes.Click on next and now we are going to pick a password for our vault. It's important that you pick a decent length password with upper and lower case characters and symbols as well, ideally ten to fifteen characters long. You also have the option to use key files here, and this is where you can add an additional file that must be present in order for the volume to be decrypted at a later point.
You can read more about this on the veracrypt site if you think this is something you would like to use. Were not going to use it here in this example. We are just going to use a password.
So just untick that,we are also not going to use an additional pin here either,so just go ahead and click on next, click on yes,it's important to note here that we are going to change the filesystem type from FAT to NTFS due to the FAT file size limitations of being unable to support file sizes over 2 Gigabytes,so we will click our dropdown arrow and click NTFS here.
