MRI Lift at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago
Since Lurie Children’s moved to its downtown location from Lincoln Park in 2012, it has expanded its hospital beds from 288 to 364. To meet patient demand, on Saturday, October 19, 2019, the hospital installed an 8-ton MRI on the fifth floor. Due to the size and weight of the magnet, a crane was required to lift it from Superior St. to an opening created by removing a window on the fifth floor where it was safely transported to the MRI suite.
