Missile Engagement with USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) and USS Porter (DDG 78)
The USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) and USS Porter (DDG 78) completed a joint Standard Missile 2 (SM-2) engagement while underway in the North Atlantic on 20 May 2023. The engagement demonstrated the joint capacity of naval forces to face multiple threats. The USS Oscar Austin and USS Porter are currently conducting exercise Formidable Shield 2023, a biennial, integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) exercise involving a series of live-fire events against subsonic, supersonic, and ballistic targets, incorporating multiple Allied ships, aircraft, and ground forces working across battlespaces to deliver effects.
