Getting Area Calculations Very Wrong In ArcGIS
The calculation of area is something you might expect for a sophisticated GIS system like ArcMap in the ArcGIS software suite to be able to correctly compute. However, it actually heavily relies on the user to understand when it is and is not appropriate to run area calculations. I run through this exercise with all of my GIS classes to show them how ArcGIS will very happily allow you to make incorrect calculations if you don't understand how to use the software.
