Join NeuroTechX Boston (NTBOS), BrainMind, and the MIT Press for an evening discussion on neurotechnology, ethics, and society.

This panel will focus on responsible innovation as it relates to neurotech entrepreneurs, investors, clinicians, and patients. How can neuroethics be integrated into neuroinnovation. We'll explore questions on brain data ownership, unique BCI consent issues, and ethical implications of performance-, memory-, and personality-altering brain technologies.

About the presenters:

Anna Wexler, PhD (moderator):
Anna Wexler leads the Wexler Lab, where she studies the ethical, legal, and social issues surrounding emerging technology. She is on the Board of the International Neuroethics Society and is an associate editor at AJOB Neuroscience and the Journal of Cognitive Enhancement. Her essays have been published in outlets such as the The New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Slate, and STAT.

Rachel Conrad, MD (panelist):
Dr. Conrad is the director of Young Adult Mental Health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and faculty at the Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics. She serves as co-director of the Medical Ethics and Professionalism II course at Harvard Medical School, and she is a teaching fellow for Dr. Steve Hyman in the neuro-ethics course at Harvard College. Rachel is also founder and co-director of the BWH/ HMS neuro-ethics summer program for undergraduate and medical students.

Adam Molnar (panelist):
Adam is a Co-Founder and Head of Partnerships at Neurable. A recipient of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 for Consumer Technology, he works with leading brands to bring emerging technologies to market. Adam speaks on data privacy and ethics, is an advisor to the Institute of Neuroethics, has consulted with the United Nations and the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and founded the Content Lab for NeurotechX.

Benjamin Stecher (panelist):
Benjamin Stecher was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at 29, and now speaks regularly at academic centers and biotech companies on issues related to neurodegenerative diseases, research advocacy and healthcare. He is also the founder of Tomorrow Edition (tmrwedition.com), and a patient advisor to several organizations including the Toronto Western Hospital Movement Disorder Clinic and the World Parkinson’s Congress.

Ana Maiques (panelist):
Ana Maiques is the CEO of Neuroelectrics, a company developing innovative technologies to monitor and stimulate the brain to help many patients in need. She received the EU Prize for Women Innovators from the European Commission EC in 2014 and was named one of the Most Inspiring Fifty Women in Europe. She now lives in Boston where Neuroelectrics was awarded as one of the 2016 Best Entrepreneurial Companies in USA by Entrepreneur Magazine.
