Josh discusses how the Internet of Things controls us without our understanding. He explores how social media historically was used to accommodate consumerism and worldwide instant connectivity, in return for a highly personalized advertisement experience, but is now used alongside the Internet of Things to provide us with services that sometimes, and purposefully, go directly against our own personal interests. Joshua Bleasby is a Geography, Urban Environments and Climate Change student at The University of Wolverhampton; bridging the gap between the natural and built environment through technology and urban design. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
