The Pandas Data Reader is an amazing Python library that let's you get Yahoo Stock data and a bunch of other data sets. If you invest in the stock market, this video is a must watch.

What is Pandas? A Python data analysis library

When I was in college, I joined the stock investment group. Every year there was a stock investment challenge and of course I signed up and went head to head with my classmates. The one tool I consistently used was the Yahoo finance website. I was able to get historical information and export the data in a CSV (comma separated values) file. This allowed me to do research and make decisions on what to have in my portfolio.

Over time as I taught Pandas, I noticed there were a group of people who wanted to learn Pandas to do some number crunching on stock data. I didn't understand all of the analysis done on the data but I was able to tell them how to do it in Pandas.

This video is for that person just getting into programming and that has a slight interest in the stock market. The pandas datareader is an amazing library that gives you full access to the same data I used to pull directly from Yahoo. But you are able to get the same data via Pandas, WOW! If only I had the skills and Pandas when I was part of that investment club...

This video will walk you though all the steps necessary to get the pandas data reader as it does not come installed with the Pandas installation. It will then show you how to pull data by ticker and show you some simple slice and dicing using date columns.
