It wasn't long ago that we met Craig Martin at Trunk or Treat, he was showing his stunning jet black 1987 Grand National. Anthony was dressed as Doc from Back to the Future and struck up a conversation with Craig, who is a musician. His grandson also has autism, so he was quite taken with Anthony. Craig offered to write a song to accompany Anthony's photography for online posting. Over time, Craig kept in touch via email, reminding us that he hadn't forgotten about his promise and that the song is still in the works.
He sent me the first mix of the song and I nearly fell off my chair. It was so much more than I ever expected. The quality of the vocals and the music itself are amazing but the subject matter is so heart felt and moving and describes Anthony perfectly, even mentioning his 57 Ford and Silverhawk, Anthony got huge kick out of that part.
Craig said, “It’s Probably the hardest song I’ve ever written with a pre-determined subject matter. Especially trying to say something through the eyes of Anthony or my grandson, Peyton. I’m not them and I can only speculate how they mightview life around them. At times, when I was recording and mixing this song, I would get choked up. I played an earlier version for Peyton’s mom (my daughter Ashley), and I had to leave the room “
This is such an honor. Craig's grandson Peyton, who is also autistic, was the younger version of Anthony in the video. He is pictured in a white shirt while Anthony shows him how it's done with the original truck that was his first viral photo back at 10-years-old. Alex, Anthony's brother, was also involved. Craig taught Anthony rocker moves and poses while Anthony channeled his inner rock star. In Anthony's words, "autism kicks butt!" Now autism rocks too!
