Choosing a career path doesn’t have to be a choice between doing well for yourself and doing good for humanity. “Work in climate,” says MS/MBA student Caleb Cunningham, and you can do both.
“There is no better career than working to address climate change,” says Cunningham. From building financial security and solving problems with real-world ramifications to finding meaning in work and contributing to the greater good, a career in hashtag#climate checks all of the boxes.
Unlike finance or tech, the nascency of climate-adjacent industries presents a big advantage. "The electric bus industry has existed for five years," Cunningham notes, "which means for any young, smart, ambitious person... you have an opportunity to be among the best in the world in very little time."
Beyond financial success, Cunningham emphasizes the profound sense of purpose that comes from climate-focused work. Drawing from his experience building solar microgrids in Africa, he says, "It's such a gift to truly believe in what you do [and] nothing merits such belief more than preventing human suffering induced by climate change.”
