So excited about this PR!! My old PR was 2.27 from January 2023 so this was a pretty nice jump in a relatively short amount of time. A sub-2 average is a lifetime goal for me that I'm sure I'll get someday as long as I keep competing, but for now I'm just thrilled to be back in the top 100. I'm also really proud of myself for holding my nerves together on solves 4 and 5 after the DNF, and for clutching out the best possible average on the last solve! This comp had some amazing Pyraminx results overall for me - it had three rounds and I got three of my best official averages ever: 2.09, 2.40, and 2.29, the last of which got me first place at the comp! I still average like 2.8 at home so these are really excellent times for me. :)
Also like Zach Ridall mentioned at the end, I'm doing a concert the night before North American Championships in Minneapolis!! Tickets are on sale now, pick one up and let me know in the comments if you're going!! https://bit.ly/TheCedarDG
Puzzle: Steven's WeiLong Pyraminx
Competition: Don't Pop Princeton 2024
----------
Reconstructions:
Solve 1: R' U L' B U' L' R' B' U' B' R'
[B'] [U] // inspection
R L [U] U R' L R L' // V
[U'] U' R U R' U // L3E
12 turns / 1.97 seconds = 6.09 TPS
Old-school turning on this one. I've been trying to do more flicks recently and have successfully revamped my turning style for a lot of cases but sometimes I just go back to old habits. Hey it works!
Solve 2: B' L' R' U' R' U' R' L B' U' B u' b'
[B] // inspection
l L R' L' R [L] L' U' L // V
[U] R' L R L' U' u // L3E
14 turns / 2.24 seconds = 6.25 TPS
Solve 3: R' U' B L U' R' L' B' U' L' U' l b
I don't wanna reconstruct a DNF lol
Solve 4: R' L R' B' R L B' R' B' U' R' l' r b'
[L] [U'] // inspection
u r l' R // V
[R'] U R U R' U L' U L // L4E
12 turns / 2.06 seconds = 5.83 TPS
Proud of the turning on this even though it's pretty low TPS - very smooth all around and I didn't do too much wrist turning.
Solve 5: U L' B L' B L B' U' L' U' B' u l' b'
[B] // inspection
r L l' U R' // V
U R' L R L' U b // L3E
12 turns / 1.89 seconds = 6.35 TPS
Definitely the easiest scramble of the bunch which was pretty lucky. Doing the first U move in L3E by pushing the back edge shows my age, but with the DNF looming over me I wanted to play this solve relatively safe and not do anything too risky. That said, I did do a back tip at the end which honestly is a pretty risky move for me, but I went slow on it just to make sure it was solved. I can't imagine how bad a +2 would've felt here!
That's all I got, now come to my show in Minneapolis!! https://bit.ly/TheCedarDG
