In this video, we invite you to make a fascinating exploration of the natural beauties of Norway and learn about the geological features lurking next to them. Knowing which will definitely make your trip even more exciting and add a hint of danger in completely unexpected places.

Our story begins with the serene but historically tragic Lake Lovatnet and the picturesque Romsdalen Valley, which have already experienced devastating landslides and megatsunamis.

Next, we head to Geiranger, a city threatened by a landslide from Mount Åkerneset, which will definitely trigger a mega-tsunami in all directions. We will also tell you about the potential predicted wave height at different ends of the fjord.

And of course, we will not miss the opportunity to walk along the Preikestolen, the crack on which has been tracked since 1930. Preikestolen is located 604 meters above Lysefjord in the Rogaland region and is known as one of the most popular hiking destinations in Norway. But the beauty and attractiveness of this rock overshadow the potential threat, or maybe you didn’t even know about it.

Then we will make a complete change of scenery and mood of the video and move from high mountains and beautiful fjords to another type of danger - quick clay landslides. This completely hidden threat caused the destruction of 14 houses in the city of Ask in December 2020. And this sad example will serve as the best reminder of the constant risks that the people of Norway live with. We will also introduce you to the main processes of the formation of quick clay and the conditions under which it becomes a mortal danger.

After watching this video, you will have an idea of how the unique nature of Norway is still constantly shaped by the geological forces of nature. But, unfortunately, it can also lead to potentially disastrous results. In addition, you will learn about potential threat monitoring and mitigation measures to protect residents and tourists.

If you love Norway and have a burning desire to learn something new, then we invite you to join us on this exciting journey, in which we will plunge into the study of the delicate balance of beauty and danger of Norwegian nature.
