Dating is the process of getting to know and establishing romantic relationships between people. In Kazakhstan, dates usually begin with an offer to go for a walk or sit in a cafe, restaurant or park. Also popular are trips to the cinema, theater or exhibitions.
A wedding ceremony is a solemn event that binds two people in marriage. In Kazakhstan, wedding ceremonies may differ depending on the region and nationality. Typically, a wedding begins with a traditional marriage ceremony, followed by a festive banquet with guests and music.
In Kazakhstan, such traditions as kelin toy (bride's celebration), betashar (groom comes for the bride) and kyz uzatu (bride's presentation) are widespread. At the celebration, the brides are usually introduced to the relatives and friends of the bride and groom, and gifts are also accepted. The bride and groom usually sit on a high place called "besik". During the ceremony, the bride and groom are given elegant headdresses that symbolize their new status.
