Cornering is probably the number one cause of crashes on a mountain bike, and can ruin your confidence if it happens frequently on a ride. Neil demonstrates different techniques to ensure that you can nail every corner with enjoyment and confidence.

Positioning your weight over the middle of the bike is important as it will mean that both wheels will have enough force to grip properly as you transition through the corner.
Looking for the exit of the corner is another vital skill to remember as the bike will follow where you look.
Braking before the corner to ensure that you have the correct speed and don't overshoot or run wide is crucial and develops with experience. The most common mistake that mountain bikers make is braking in a corner, we're all guilty of it, but it can change your line and makes a crash much more likely.
Understanding the edge of your tyres grip and being able to drift can make it easier to get the rear of the bike round tight corners, but it comes with experience and practice. Begin in a wide open space with plenty of loose surface and don't forget to feel comfortable at dabbing your foot if you have to.
Tight uphill switchbacks can be tricky to master and easy to overshoot, lightly feathering your rear brake can carefully control your speed and ensure that you can still get enough power out to manoeuvre round.
