This is a replay of our biotechnology training workshop which was held at 2:00PM ET on Thurs, April 21.
This day celebrates the discovery of the DNA double helix in 1953 and the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003. Join us TODAY, Thursday, April 21 at 2 PM ET as we explore experiments and other ideas to help you celebrate DNA Day with your students! 🎉

In this workshop, we’re going to be focusing on DNA because we have a special scientific holiday coming up! DNA Day celebrates the discovery of the double helix in 1953 and the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003. In today’s experiment, we’re going to extract long DNA polymers from solution. Historically, purified DNA was used to determine the structure and function of DNA, and then we can sequence it – or determine the identity of each nucleotide. Today, we use purified DNA in many biotechnology techniques, including genetic engineering, transformation, restriction digest, PCR, and more. And a lot of these can be done in your classroom! I’m also going to highlight some free resources that can be coupled with DNA extraction experiments to celebrate DNA day!
