The debate on whether to niche down your YouTube channel or not will not be settled in this episode. And whoever promises you to have all the answers to this question is a charlatan. After all, it's kind of a personal decision. When it comes to success in numbers however, the way to go is pretty clear. How I handled this and why will be the subject here, and I will also get into the connection of niches and picking a language for your YouTube channel if you're bilingual and have difficulty deciding.

Picking a niche is kind of hard, because it means you will have to limit yourself in one way or another. Personally, I think that many channels overdo it. I do not like "pure advice" channels. And it doesn't matter to me if they have a personal touch. What does it matter? You never get to know the person behind the camera a little bit better. It creates that professional cold distance which just isn't YouTube to me. I think, YouTube should stay social, even if it is para-social. It makes the platform more human, more authentic and more interesting than others, and in my opinion it is why it has survived for so long.
