Take it with a pinch of salt and some code zero.
A couple of points
1. PHP has a far wide base of developers. This skews the stats lower.
2. More PHP developers work on the WordPress econ system which means more maintenance work rather than new build development work. This pays less. But there's more work.
3. PHP is an older language meaning more developers. All languages go through this cycle as they become more widely adopted competition comes in and lowers prices.
4. Increasing pay has to do more with educating your customer and client rather than just what it says on the box. Remember people buy software for the value it brings, not how you type the code.
