The Trail of the Molten Land winds through the remnants of a basalt lava flow, offering views of a rugged landscape and resilient life that thrives here.
𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The trail is situated at the Lava Lands Visitor Center in the Newberry National Volcanic Monument.
𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: The trail loops out across a basalt lava flow for a little over a mile to its source at the base of Lava Butte. It provides insights into the formation of Lava Butte and close-up views of many unique features of this lava flow.
𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: One third of the trail is a newly reconstructed section that is universally accessible. Older sections of the trail may have grades and surfaces that may be challenging without assistance.
𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬: The trail has eleven new full-color interpretive signs that tell the story of the eruption of Lava Butte and the life that now makes the lava their home.
𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡: The Trail of the Molten Land is a 1.1-mile long partial loop with 135 feet of elevation change.
