When Musicians and Audio Techs Clash: Common Mistakes and Solutions
In this video, we tackle a common problem that arises in the world of live sound: musicians complaining that their monitor mixes are changing, even though the audio tech swears he's not making any adjustments. Who is to blame in this scenario? Monitor mixes, whether live wedges or IEMs, are important to musician performances.
We explore the various operational issues that can cause inadvertent monitor mix changes. From misapplied settings to a misunderstanding of signal flow. Even when the musicians have control of their own monitor mixes through tablets or other means, if the console is not set up properly, their changes might seemingly change at random. Yet the audio tech, or band itself, can truthfully say they never touched the mix. That's not always the end of the story of the story.
