Let’s learn how to use the AVERAGEIF() function in Microsoft Excel. The AVERAGEIF() function in microsoft excel will return the mean of any numerical data set that fit some criteria that we describe. So, when we call our function we are asked for a range, a criteria and optional an average range. Our range is all the numbers that we wish to check against our criteria. You can think of the criteria as a filter, only the values that fit our criteria will be averaged, and lastly the average range is optional and only applied if we want to average a value that is not our range, otherwise range will be used.
