Live from Tel Aviv's 'Hostages Square' on fifth day of Israel-Hamas ceasefire as deal extended
Live from 'Hostage Square' in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, November 28, marking the fifth day of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, after it was announced that the deal would be extended for a further two days. Earlier Qatar's Foreign Ministry confirmed that the current truce and hostage-prisoner swap agreement would continue.
On Sunday, Israel freed a further 39 Palestinian prisoners and later in the evening, Hamas released 17 hostages, comprising 14 Israelis and three foreigners, including a four-year-old girl. Israel and Hamas agreed to the initial four-day ceasefire and hostage-prisoner swap starting on Friday at 7 am local time.
The deal involved the release of 50 hostages in exchange for 150 Palestinians from Israeli jails, with aid trucks allowed into Gaza. The agreement followed weeks of negotiations in Qatar, with the US and Egypt also serving as brokers.
