Leaf season has begun! There are a lot of leaves today, but there are far more to come in the next few weeks! Unfortunately, its also raining today, so I kind of make a mess as I try to mulch the tall wet grass clippings and the wet leaves at the same time. The radar showed a big break in the rain, but that break never really happened and I got soaking wet as it rained almost the entire time I was doing yardwork. The leaf blower struggled to move piles of wet leaves, and the mower was on the verge of clogging up with all the tall wet grass clippings and leaves mixed together. But it did end up working despite the troubles!
I also did some weed wacking around the edges. Not too much though because I was getting rained on and wanted to be done!
Just like I did last year, this year I'm going to try to mulch all - or at least most - of my leaves into the lawn. So I used my leaf blower to push all the leaves on my driveway, on to my lawn. Then I much them all up with the grass as I mow right over them. I did this same method last year and I was skeptical that the lawn could take that many mulched up leaves for about 5 weeks straight. But it did! And it is SIGNIFICANTLY easier dealing with leaves this way, versus picking them up by hand and even using the yard vacuum. Mulching with the mower is the best option by far!
I did not notice the lawn growing any better this past season, having all of those mulched up leaves as extra fertilizer. But it definitely didn't do any harm either. And in years past, I would fill up my whole trailer with leaves and have to bring it to the town recycling center to dump it.
So I'm definitely sticking with the mulch into the lawn method!
