Hu Jintao: Xi Jinping's Predecessor (2002-2012)
In this video, we'll cover the life of Hu Jintao, the leader of China in just 8 minutes! Effectively, Deng Xiaoping appointed Hu Jintao to be the one to take over from Jiang Zemin just as Jiang Zemin was starting his reign as the leader of China. After Jiang stepped back in 2002, Hu Jintao faced a range of issues such as the GFC and less than ideal results in the Taiwanese elections from the perspective of the PRC. He also brought in a range of reforms such as the 8 Honours and 8 Shames creed in an effort to restore the moral fabric of China and he also invested heavily in African infrastructure. This begs the question, for someone who seemed so competent, how could his reign be so small in comparison to other Chinese leaders? How did Xi Jinping dethrone him?
