Kolkata: “Nabanna” Protest Turns Violent, Tear Gas Fired, Students Lathicharged | RG Kar Rape-Murder
In the Indian city of Kolkata, violent protests erupted over the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case. The police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse thousands of protesters who were marching to Nabanna, the West Bengal State Secretariat. Officials heavily fortified the secretariat with barricades, which were all brought down by the angry protesters. The protest is led by an unregistered students’ group demanding the resignation of West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. They are angry over the “incompetent” government which failed to take swift against the accused who brutally raped and murdered a doctor at the RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The prime suspect of the case Sanjay Roy is currently in jail. Watch the video to know more.
