Overlooking Mombasa, the star attractions of the Nguuni Nature Sanctuary literally stand head and shoulders over the environment.
A tower of giraffes roams gracefully through Nguuni and the animals' freedom attracts visitors who can approach, with caution, these gentle giants. This proximity to the world's tallest animals certainly answers the question: "how big are giraffes?"
Within this natural setting, other larger herbivores such as oryxes and elands call Nguuni home. There are also significant wetland and marshy areas permitting dozens of birds to roost and migrate in what is an excellent spot for birding in Kenya.
Wake up early with Matt as he arises from a very economical campsite in order to observe a sunrise at Nguuni. The stillness of the pre-dawn in Bamburi Kenya is broken by the wails of nearby Islamic azans, calls to prayers.
Nguuni is a project under the London-based charity, The Haller Foundation. Its goal is to develop community-based sustainable living in rural Africa.
