The word "experience" is countable and uncountable.
This is important because they mean different things.
1) When "experience" is countable, it means: events in my life /
memories.
-I’ve had many positive experiences traveling the world teaching English.
Staying in the hospital for 2 weeks was a horrible experience.

2)When "experience" is uncountable, we mean: knowledge or skills
-I’ve been a teacher for 12 years. I have a lot of teaching experience.
-We need someone with experience in sales.

On your resume you want to put "work experience." We use the uncountable form because we are speaking about our knowledge and skills which we have acquired through our past jobs. We aren't speaking about specific stories.

TRICK:
If you can tell a story, it's AN EXPERIENCE.
If you can say how long you've done something, it's EXPERIENCE. For example, I've been a (job) for _____ years.

Think about your answer to these two questions:
1) Can you think about a scary experience you’ve had? Tell the story.
2) How much experience do you have in your field?
