Learn how to blur the background (or any part) of a photo to varying degrees in Adobe Photoshop CC using the Lens Blur Filter and a Depth Map.

Using this method to add background blur creates a much more natural or realistic looking image than Portrait Mode on your phone. Creating a blurry background or the shallow depth of field effect using a Lens Blur Depth Map requires the use of Layer Masks and an understanding of how different shades of grey (much less than 50) will impact the final depth of your image.
