Tuesday, March 7 at 7:30 pm, WQXR's new-music channel Q2 Music presented the trailblazing Kronos Quartet and Face the Music, Kaufman Music Center's acclaimed youth ensemble The New York Times calls “a force in the New York new-music world,” in a sold-out show from The Greene Space at WQXR. Q2 Music's Helga Davis hosted.
Part of the 2017 Ecstatic Music Festival, the evening included classic pieces written for Kronos Quartet, as well as new repertoire from the ensemble's ambitious Fifty for the Future initiative, a multi-year project which will create 50 works (by 25 women and 25 men) designed to guide young string quartets in developing and honing the skills required for the performance of 21st-century repertoire.
For more than 40 years, Kronos Quartet has combined a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to continually re-imagine the string quartet experience, becoming one of the most celebrated and influential groups of our time.
