In this video, I provide a response to Polymatter's video, "Why the United States is Suing Apple," exploring the allegations in the U.S. government's antitrust lawsuit against Apple. Polymatter’s video has stirred some controversy, with many accusing the creator of being biased toward Apple. While I admire Polymatter’s work, I believe their take on this case misses important context and presents a one-sided view.
The DOJ alleges that Apple has used its control over the App Store and the iPhone APIs to block competitors, making it more difficult for users to switch to other platforms. The Polymatter video touches on 5 items from the complaint, related to Super Apps, Cloud Streaming, Messaging in iMessage, Smartwatches and Digital Wallets. While I address each of these in turn, it's important to consider how these are part of a greater whole. This video therefore delves into the history of tech giants like Microsoft and Apple, exploring past antitrust cases and drawing parallels to Apple's current legal battle. We'll analyze claims of anti-competitive practices, Apple's App Store policies, and how they may have used their dominance to stifle competition. The video includes a breakdown of Polymatter’s arguments as well as my own perspectives on the lawsuit and its broader implications for "consumers", "developers" and "human beings".
