How British SBS rescues the Nave Andromeda?
October 6, 2020, the Liberian-flagged Greek-operated oil tanker Nave Andromeda set sail from the bustling port of Lagos Nigeria. The ship was headed for the British port of Southampton. Its captain was Greek, while the rest of the 22-member crew was mostly Filipino. The crew was unaware that seven men had secretly boarded the ship while it was docked in Lagos, hiding themselves in the rudder stock.
October 15, when the ship reached near the Port of Las Palmas. The crew discovered the stowaways hiding on the rudder. Moved by compassion, they assisted them in coming aboard the deck. Meanwhile port authorities became aware that the stowaways were on board, they immediately refused to let the Nave Andromeda dock. Without docking, the vessel couldn’t officially enter the country. If the Nave Andromeda had been allowed to dock at Las Palmas, the authorities would have been forced to let the stowaways disembark, giving them the chance to apply for asylum in Spain. October 16, the ship set sail once more, reaching Saint-Nazaire, France. However, docking permission was denied again after the captain notified port officials about the stowaways. As supplies dwindled, tensions between the stowaways and the crew grew. As the tanker navigated the West African coast and made its way north into the English Channel near the Isle of Wight, the captain sent out a distress call. The situation had turned dire, with the stowaways becoming physically violent and making verbal threats to kill. For their own safety, the 22 crew members retreated to the citadel
