The song "Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow" (Ukrainska: Ой у лузі червона калина - Oi u luzi chervona kalyna) was officially published in 1875 as a marching song. However, the song was modernized as a patriotic song in 1914 by Stepan Mykolaiovych Charnetskyi, a Ukrainian composer. The song was banned during the period in which Ukraine was part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics for the song's nationalistic/independence-minded aspirations.
