Rigs over the years have become heavier. The rise in popularity of rigs like the Ronnie, which often incorporate clips, hook swivels, tungsten beads and even large hooks simply require a very buoyant pop up, especially if you want to fish smaller baits like 12mm.
For a Baitmaker, it's easy to create a round ball with extreme buoyancy, but it's more complicated than that. The products widely used to create buoyancy in an airball type pop up have zero attraction properties. So, to make a pop up work you need to carefully create a bait that pops up well but also one that incorporates liquid and powder attraction in soluble form too. Expectations are higher these days across the market in terms of how long anglers expect even tiny pop ups to stand tall, so after many trial batches we're really happy with our new and improved pop up mix. It's a more buoyant mix but crucially it still pumps out food signals as it still incorporates fantastic ingredients and ticks all the attraction properties you want from a hook bait.
