I'll show you how to make fast and easy soft sourdough potato bread! My sourdough potato bread is one of the softest and fluffiest breads I’ve ever eaten! It has a mild sourness with a touch of sweetness from honey and can be used for sandwich bread, hot dog or burger buns, or dinner rolls! You can even substitute all the flour with whole wheat for a wholesome hearty bread. I’ll be showing you both versions so you can see how they compare. This is a much faster recipe than most sourdough recipes. With the help of some commercial yeast, there’s only one bulk rise so you can have fresh baked bread in just a few hours. This recipe is also dairy-free and egg-free!
Recipe (yields 1 loaf or 8 rolls)
1/3 cup potato flakes + 1/2 cup hot water (or half cup of mashed potatoes)
1 cup of warm water
2 Tbs grapeseed oil
2 tsp Himalayan pink salt
2 Tbs honey or sugar optional
2 Tbs starter (fed or unfed, cold or room temperature)
1 tsp active dry yeast
500g flour (bread flour, all-purpose, or whole wheat, approximately 3 - 3¼ cups)
Bake at loaf at 350 degrees F for 45-50 minutes
Bake rolls at 350 degrees F for 30-35 minutes
