Real quick, this is from ep. 180 of the Physique Development Podcast ‘The Best Way to Get Abs & a Strong Core’
I’ve said it & you’ve heard it many times, you CANNOT spot reduce body fat.
But, this recent 2021 study collected data that proves otherwise…
You CAN spot reduce body fat (maybe😉)
In this study, they looked at two groups
Group 1 (Controlled): Performed 45 min of Zone 2 Cardio (No ab exercises)
Group 2 (Spot Reduction): Performed 27 min of Zone 2 Cardio & 2 ab exercises on 4 minute intervals
The difference in zone 2 cardio time was to match total caloric expenditure between the two groups.
They performed their protocols 4x weekly, over a 10 week period & the results shocked me…
The Spot Reduction Group saw a 7% drop in belly fat, while the cardio only group loss 4% in belly fat 🤯
The spot reduction group actually lost MORE body fat in the target area, crazy!
Now, does this mean that myself & other fitness professionals in the space have been lying all along?! Only time will tell, but at this moment we need more studies to report the same findings.
