Diagnosing and Repairing a Broken Hard Drive
Hard drives are one of the most popular storage devices on the market. While SSDs are getting more and more popular, hard drives are still in demand because they offer the largest capacity and the cheapest price. However, after some time, hard drives are prone to failure, especially after a long period of use, usually after a few years, particularly if they are used a lot.
In this video, we will examine a hard drive that is more than 10 years old and has over 34,000 hours of use. It has finally failed, showing some unreadable sectors that indicate future failure is likely. I will show you how to maintain a hard drive and fix the errors if possible. We will try to fix this drive to ensure it continues to function, but of course, there is no guarantee it will work for a very long time.
First, we will use the regular tools in Windows to scan for errors on the drive. These tools can be used to scan any drive. Then, we will use a specialized program called CrystalDiskMark to diagnose hard drives and SSDs. This program allows us to detect issues and diagnose errors, as well as gather more information about the hard drive.
We will also try to use third-party software to fix errors, specifically Acronis Disk Director. This procedure can be used for any hard drives or SSDs.
