Why do they call it medieval? I always used to think the word was a combination of meat and evil. Now, this is an interesting question, because when I think of medieval, it's a period of time. It's funny because for the longest time, people called the Middle Ages, the Dark Ages, because the idea was there was this great civilization of Rome and Byzantine Empire.
But when we call that period the Middle Ages, that's still kind of talking about it as if there's something wrong with it. Right? Like as if Rome counted for something and then the Renaissance counted for something in the Middle Ages or just kind of in between. Historians tried to get people to stop using the term Middle Ages, too.
And so nowadays the most common popular term is medieval. To answer actually that medieval, the word medieval just means middle ages. Many like as in the median evolves and all as another way of saying an age. So medieval literally just means of the middle ages.
